Controller Design via Nonsmooth Multidirectional Search

چکیده
We propose an algorithm which combines multi-directional search (MDS) with nonsmooth optimization techniques to solve difficult problems in automatic control. Applications include static and fixed-order output feedback controller design, simultaneous stabilization, H2/H∞ synthesis and much else. We show how to combine direct search techniques with nonsmooth descent steps in order to obtain convergence certificates in the presence of nonsmoothness. Our technique is efficient when small and medium size controllers for plants with large state dimension are sought. Our numerical testing includes several benchmark examples. For instance, our algorithm needs 0.41 seconds to compute a static output feedback stabilizing controller for the Boeing 767 flutter benchmark problem [24], a system with 55 states. The first static controller without performance specifications for this system was obtained in [18].

Anti-windup design via nonsmooth multi-objective H∞ optimization
This paper investigates constrained control design problems involving mixed magnitude and rate saturations. We show that simultaneous design of structured feedback and antiwindup gains can be recast as minimizing two H∞-norm objectives. One is associated with nominal system operation while the other also captures the saturations effects. Because of the two-block structure of the controller, the...
متن کاملFixed-Order H∞ Controller Design via HIFOO, a Specialized Nonsmooth Optimization Package
We report on our experience with fixed-order H∞ controller design using the HIFOO toolbox. We applied HIFOO to various benchmark fixed (or reduced) order H∞ controller design problems in the literature, comparing the results with those published for other methods. The results show that HIFOO can be used as an effective alternative to existing methods for fixed-order H∞ controller design.
متن کاملDynamic Modeling and Controller Design of Distribution Static Compensator in a Microgrid Based on Combination of Fuzzy Set and Galaxy-based Search Algorithm
This paper presents a nonlinear controller for a Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) of a microgrid incorporating the Distributed Generation (DG) units. The nonlinear control has been designed based on partial feedback linearization theory and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers try to adjust the voltage and trace the output. This paper has proposed a combination of a fuz...
متن کاملBackstepping for nonsmooth systems
The paper presents a constructive control design for integrator backstepping in nonsmooth systems. The approach is based on non smooth analysis and Lyapunov stability for nonsmooth systems and is similar in spirit with the robust control designs that have appeared in literature, but is applicable to a larger class of systems. The backstepping controller is 1rst applied to the case of a unicycle...
متن کاملNonsmooth optimization techniques for structured controller design
Significant progress in control design has been achieved by the use of nonsmooth and semi-infinite mathematical programming techniques. In contrast with LMI or BMI approaches, these new methods avoid the use of Lyapunov variables, which gives them two major strategic advances over matrix inequality methods. Due to the much smaller number of decision variables, they do not suffer from size restr...
